Excellence in Care, Integrity in Practice, and Safety for All
Japan
Bangladesh Friendship Hospital (JBFH) is a
premier multi-specialty healthcare facility located on Satmasjid Road in
Dhanmondi, Dhaka 1209, Bangladesh. Established on April 8, 1994, the
hospital was founded by Prof. Dr. Sarder A. Nayeem, a pioneer in
laparoscopic surgery, and Prof. Dr. Jonaid Shafiq, a leading pain
medicine specialist, in collaboration with Dr. Shigeru Suganami of Japan
to build a facility that blends local clinical expertise with strict Japanese
medical quality standards. Over the last three decades, this partnership has
evolved into a trusted cornerstone of the country's private healthcare sector.
Operating
24 hours a day, the 100-bed hospital provides comprehensive,
patient-centered clinical services. JBFH is particularly renowned for its advanced
laparoscopic surgery department, which was shaped by its founders'
pioneering work in minimal-access surgical techniques. It also houses a highly
sought-after pain management unit that utilizes specialized therapeutic
protocols to treat chronic and acute pain disorders. Beyond these niches, the
hospital delivers robust medical care in many disciplines ensuring that families
have access to complete medical supervision under one roof.
For
critically ill patients, the hospital maintains a high-end Intensive Care
Unit (ICU) and a High Dependency Unit (HDU). These emergency zones
are outfitted with modern life-support equipment, including mechanical
ventilators, cardiac monitors, and portable bedside diagnostics. Additionally,
JBFH runs a 24-hour kidney dialysis unit equipped with advanced
technology. To ensure maximum patient safety and prevent cross-contamination,
the unit strictly enforces infection control protocols by operating completely
separate dialysis stations for patients carrying infectious diseases like
Hepatitis B or C.
Beyond
daily hospital operations, the parent organization, Japan Bangladesh
Friendship Medical Services Ltd., actively drives healthcare education and
humanitarian initiatives. The group operates dedicated nursing colleges across
Dhaka to train the next generation of medical professionals. It also
collaborates closely with organizations like the Down Syndrome Society of
Bangladesh to provide affordable healthcare to vulnerable communities
especially people with Down syndrome. Looking toward the future, the enterprise
is expanding its footprint by developing a major Geriatric Hospital and
Retirement Home in Purbachal, which will offer 24/7 assisted living and
specialized residential care for senior citizens.
